(One more win guarantees me an expensive-ass suit!)
I went a measly 2/4 yesterday...bringing my Sweet Sixteen totals to a very average 5 of 8. Today is all about the Pitt vs. Villanova game. This game is so good for the blog. Who would have guessed that Matt's Villanova team would be squaring off with Pitt for the right to go to the Final Four? I could not have scripted things better myself. Let's enjoy this monumental occasion. Someone will have HUGE bragging rights by the end of the day.
Connecticut over Missouri

Reasons:
Connecticut over Missouri
Reasons:
- Like I said before...you think that a mere "recruiting scandal" is going to keep Jim Calhoun and the Huskies down? That's only going to piss coach off more! To quote Calhoun when asked about knowing NCAA recruiting rules: "Do you think every NCAA investigator knows what's in every one of those 508 pages?" Jim Calhoun does not have time to worry about rules...he's too busy winning NCAA Tournament games!!!
- I'll take UConn's senior leadership in A.J. Price, along with the Huskies' size advantage over Missouri's run-and-gun speed.
- Two weeks ago, after selection Sunday, everyone was sleeping on this UConn team...thinking that they were all but guaranteed to be the first No. 1 seed to go down. This is the classic reverse-bandwagon effect in action. Everyone thought they were vulnerable, the program is under recruiting allegations, Coach Calhoun is a cocky jerk, etc. These are the teams that piss everyone off by continuing to win.
- I think there may be a chance that Missouri is a little physically and emotionally exhausted after their big "upset" win over Memphis. They ran Memphis out of the building, scored over 100 points, and defeated a team that many had going to the Final Four. They might just be a little tired.
- Big East over Big 12. I just have to do it.
- Confidence in this Pick: 7.2
Reasons:
- Do I really have to give reasons? I'm rooting for Pitt to make their first EVER Final Four appearance. This should be obvious to everyone. There will be no objectivity what-so-ever taking place here. This is blatant homer'ism...and I'm not ashamed. I'm worried that both teams are playing with house money right now. I'm worried that Villanova defeated Pitt during their only meeting during the regular season. I'm worried that Pitt hasn't played their best game in the NCAA Tournament...yet. This should be a great one. I'm nervous as hell. Go Pit!
- Confidence in this pick: N/A

After much deliberation, soul-searching, teeth-gnashing, my picks:
ReplyDeleteMissouri
P-I-T-T Pitt Pitt Pitt
(Liz's cousin and our housemate Mike is rooting for Nova. If anyone wants his cell phone #, e-mail me).
And D-man, you still need a copy editor.
So where are the rest of you with your predictions? This is weak.
ReplyDeleteSorry this is late and I know the UCONN game is at half, but I already picked UCONN (it has nothing to do with the halftime score).
ReplyDeleteFor the other game, as much as I believe Pitt is going to win, I have to select 'Nova, they are my boys and I am sticking with them.
By the way, I just woke up, so that is my excuse for being late.
ReplyDeleteCJS is my copy editor. But if YOU, Chaz, notice any errors...you are free to point them out as well.
ReplyDeleteI like how you now have faith in Missouri, after I was the only one picking them to win against Memphis.
Holy Crap that was a horrible first half for Pitt. I saw and still don't understand how we ended up with the lead going into the locker room. What we need is for Pitt to come out and play a crushing 2nd half (like they did most of the season).
ReplyDeleteFor the record - my Final Four picks:
U Conn (not much of a "pick" at this point)
Pitt
Louisville
UNC
What happened, I thought I would get on this thing and see a bunch of comments. Okay, so I'll let it fly...I can't believe it, I just can't believe it. I will wait for DH to post something about the game, but I am so happy...but still can't believe it.
ReplyDelete"Two weeks ago, after selection Sunday, everyone was sleeping on this UConn team...thinking that they were all but guaranteed to be the first No. 1 seed to go down."
ReplyDeleteDH: I don't get any credit here? this was precisely my observation...two weeks ago. way to serve up some blatant plagiarism alongside your blatant homerism.
Chaz...Still waiting for you to point out the reasons I need a copy editor.
ReplyDeletePhil...You're 94% correct that you deserve some credit (perhaps even a label) for your thoughts about UConn. I'll see what I can do about righting this wrong.
Bob...Why do people keep wanting reactions to games from me? That doesn't make any sense. This is the whole newspaper vs. Internet thing coming to life. If you want a recap of the game...read a game recap in the newspaper. We all watched it. We all know what happened. Maybe when I get enough strength and composure, I'll find the time (and fortitude) to give a thought/musing on Pitt's final game of the season.
BAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
ReplyDeleteWow. That was even weaker than I thought. Come ON, Damon! I won't even dignify your useless excuses with the 7.5 million reasons that a Pitt commentary on this blog makes sense.
Congratulations, everybody. "Conquering the 2009 NCAA Tournament" just turned into "The Matrix: Revolutions."
