Lydia Cate, Annie, & Phil Take Things Up A Notch II
I'm presenting these amazing pictures over two posts because the people involved deserve twice the labels for their efforts. Well done!

Annie I am officially envious and from this point on, I will not disagree with whatever you say on this blog...just by standing next to Jay Wright you have more basketball knowledge then anyone associated with this blog...but he went the extra mile and gave the old side hug...definitely jealous. I will have to find a baby in the crowd next time and use that as my prop to get a hug from Coach Wright.
ReplyDeleteWhen were these pictures taken? I am assuming after the game as Wright already had his $1,000 I-Talian made suit jacket off.
Three more questions:
-Where was Brey? Or have you already gotten pictures with him.
-How did you pull off the pictures with everyone, was it the baby or do you have a connection?
-How did Jay Wright smell???? Okay...that question even weirds me out.
I won't mention anything about the score of the game because these pictures are soooo much better then anything that happened on the court on Monday.
Matt, I'll let Annie answer most of your questions. I do just want to point out that we considered finding Brey for a photo op and then quickly rejected the idea. Do we really want to photograph our daughter with the mock turtle-neck wearing coach who could double as an evil villain? no. a photo with Jay Wright is infinitely more valuable (because he's a better coach) and of course more pleasurable to look at. Though I hate to break it to you: he's not as handsome up close.
ReplyDeletePhil, did you hear that...it was my heart breaking over your comment about Wright's boyish good looks. I think maybe I always thought of him as a looker because I was always comparing him to the coach that was at 'Nova when I was there...Steve Lappas. Nonetheless, my argument in the blog last year was that he was the classiest dressed coach in basketball...not necessarily the best looking, but i still have tears coming down my face as I write this.
ReplyDeleteFirst for the most important question, Jay Wright smelled like a pricey I-Talian cologne. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I'm pretty sure it's expensive and hard to come by, like his tailored suits. We have a photo from the game of Jay pacing courtside, and he's actually adjusting his cuffs. Classic. More answers to come...
ReplyDeleteWow, adjusting his cuff links...truly a class act.
ReplyDeleteI look like Brad Pitt compared to Steve Lappas.
ReplyDeleteThanks for not mentioning the outcome of the game, Matt. It was looking pretty tight until that 16-1 Villanova run. At least the win put Jay Wright in the mood for some pics with ND fans. And you're right, you definitely need to find a baby for these kinds of opportunities. I don't actually think we would have gotten any of the photos without Lydia Cate to lead the way.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures were taken after the game. We kind of hung around because LC was being good and I didn't want to go home yet. So we listened to Mike Brey's somehow still optimistic post-game interview, and then Phil says why don't we go and see if he can take a picture with Bill Raftery in the background. So we go over to the ESPN table, which is roped off, and Phil snaps a few with me looking nervous and Raftery about fifteen feet away. Then Bill sees us and invites us to come over and chat, and the rest is history. He was my favorite of the three, really friendly and grandfatherly.
So we're totally content and are walking out of the arena, when we start seeing Villanova players coming down the hallway. I almost stopped Dante Cunningham for a photo, but the timing wasn't right. We walk a little further and there's Jay Wright, just walking back into the locker room. Not wanting to miss my chance, since I've always admired him as the best dressed coach in college basketball, I shout out, "Hey Jay!" and he turns around and talks to us! We got the photo, he told us ND is a wonderful place (especially after you humiliate their bball team), and we went home, pleased as punch.
We have no connections; we just have a baby, a little luck, and a little confidence. As DH said, one wouldn't expect these things to happen to the Reeds. We're just too normal and boring. As for Mike Brey, we didn't get photos with him, not with that mock turtleneck and villain-esque slicked back hair. With our newfound stardom on this blog, though, Brey will probably be calling soon for photos with us.
