Best Big Men In The Country?

(Hasheem Thabeet, Tyler Hansbrough, Blake Griffin, & Nick Calathes?)

I thought I'd write a column sometime soon comparing the centers on the four (probable) #1 seeds in the upcoming NCAA Tournament - Pitt, North Carolina, Connecticut, and Oklahoma. Instead of brainstorming the idea first...I searched the internet for an appropriate photo. I came across the picture above and thought I'd hit the jackpot. Three stellar big men from the best teams in the country! And Nick Calethes??? WTF? The assembled picture accompanied an article on ESPN last summer...well before the college basketball season started. Was Pitt not in the national discussion back then? Had Dejuan Blair not put himself on the college hoops map last season? Does Nick Calathes have incriminating photos of someone at ESPN? We may never get to the bottom of this mystery. The sports entertainment leader has come around though, running the following photo with Pat Forde's column about Cinderella Dreamers and conference tournaments. Better late than never I suppose. (By the way...it's blog favorite Stephen Curry!)

  1. Something else fishy about the photo. If it was from the summer, how did they get griffin in a Sooners uniform?

  2. I'm sorry...I've been up too long working on this damn thing and can't tell authenticity from humor anymore. Either you're making a joke that I'm not getting, or you didn't know that Griffin is a sophomore and not a freshman.

I SWEAR my humor and normal sensibilities will be back soon!

  3. Your humor sensibilities are fine. I did think he was a freshman. my mistake.

  4. I totally fell asleep on the couch from midnight to 2:30. Since then I've been wasting time on the internet and trying to motivate myself to crank that Robert Morris article out so I don't have to do it later today...when I won't have time...and when I'll have to get the 5 Conference Tournament capsules before I got out for the night.

I'm going to have to use that Blair quote you sent me sometime. He refers to himself in the third person! I think.
